ERP Implementation Methodology: 6 stages to go-live
Most failures are not about software — they are about an unclear path. Here is a proven six-stage method.
Stage 1: Kickoff & alignment (1–2 weeks)
Agree on why and quantify targets. Form a joint team (business + IT + management); define scope and milestones.
Stage 2: Blueprint (2–4 weeks)
Map current processes; identify "must change" vs "keep". Output: process maps, master-data standards, permission matrix.
Stage 3: Configuration & integration (3–6 weeks)
Configure org, process and forms; connect existing systems via open API. Prefer low-code; confirm data mappings.
Stage 4: Data migration & testing (2–3 weeks)
Cleanse, transform and validate history; run 3+ rounds of UAT by real users. Keep a rollback plan.
Stage 5: Cutover (1 week)
Choose phased or big-bang cutover; set freeze points and a parallel period. Standby and escalation contacts ready.
Stage 6: Optimize (ongoing)
Monitor KPIs, build a knowledge base, and iterate with customer-success reviews.
